As mission-critical equipment, power systems are expected to provide power consistently to what they must, when they must and for as long as they must; the impact of normal and/or emergency power system failures is potentially severe. This session is based on dozens of onsite reviews and actual failures during and after major disasters. The focus will be on best practices for finding and reducing power system vulnerabilities, including finding common mode failure potential; improving communication; planning for different types of failures; assessing reliability, availability and dependability; and the importance of inspection, maintenance, and testing.
