NFPA 70-2017, National Electrical Code: Changes (Panel 1 of 3)

The 2017 edition of NFPA 70, National Electrical Code (NEC), is up for adoption. This first in a series of three presentations will address noteworthy changes.

Keith Lofland, IAEI
L. Keith Lofland is the Director of Education, Codes and Standards, for IAEI. Keith is the principle author of the IAEI Analysis of Changes and the IAEI One and Two Family Dwellings publications. He is also responsible for numerous publications and PowerPoint presentations detailing other topics of NEC importance. Keith represents IAEI as a member of Code Making Panel 9 for the NEC. He also is a member of UL's Electrical Council. Prior to his position with the International Office of IAEI, Keith spent 19 years with the City of Garland, Texas, serving as Chief Electrical Inspector. He holds a Master Electrician License in Texas. He also has obtained electrical inspector certifications from IAEI and ICC. Keith served as the secretary/treasurer for the Texas Chapter of IAEI for 10 years from 1995-2004.

Michael Johnston, NECA
Michael Johnston is NECA's Executive Director of Standards and Safety. He holds a BS in Business Management from the University of Phoenix. Mike is the Chairman of the NEC Correlating Committee and an Alternate on Code Making Panel 1. He served on NEC Code Making Panel 5 in 2002 and 2005, and was Chair of Code Making Panel 5 representing NECA for the 2011 NEC cycle. Among his responsibilities for managing the codes, standards, and safety functions for NECA, Mike is secretary of the NECA Codes and Standards Committee. He is a member of the IBEW and is an active member of ANSI, IAEI, NFPA, SES, ASSE, ANSI-EVSP, ANSI-ESSCC, the UL Electrical Council, and the National Safety Council, and is Vice Chair of the NFPA Electrical Section.
