The Barrier Management Symposium is intended to educate those responsible for managing the health care built environment and ensure that the fire and smoke resistance requirements of NFPA 101, Life Safety Code, are properly maintained. This presentation dives into the details of the related requirements of NFPA 101, Chapter 8, as they pertain to continuity of assemblies for Life Safety.

Bill McHugh, Firestop Contractors International Association Bill McHugh is Executive Director of the Firestop Contractors International Association. He is a member of NFPA's Fire Protection Features Technical Committee, ICC's Fire Safety Committee, and the IAS Board of Directors. He has spoken internationally on fire resistance.
William Koffel, Koffel Associates, Inc. Bill Koffel is President of Koffel Associates, a fire protection and life safety engineering design and consulting firm, and is recognized as an expert in the fire protection and life safety aspects of codes and standards. Headquartered in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area, the firm provides consulting; engineering design and construction administration; codes and standards development; seminar development and training; product testing and evaluation/representation; and litigation support to public and private clients worldwide. Bill remains active in the development process of the industry's governing codes, standards, and design guidelines, including ICC, NFPA, SFPE, and UL. He is a member of many NFPA technical committees, and is the Chair of both the NFPA Life Safety Correlating Committee and the technical committee responsible for NFPA 25. Bill is a former code official with the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office and a Past President of the SFPE.
Jonathan Flannery, ASHE - American Hospital Association Jonathan Flannery is currently the Senior Associate Director of Advocacy for ASHE of the American Hospital Association, playing a key role in ASHE's advocacy program that works for better codes and standards affecting health care facilities. Jonathan has 25 years of health care engineering experience and continues to serve as part of ASHE's educational faculty. He serves on national panels and committees that develop regulations for the design and construction of health care facilities, such as the ICC's Ad Hoc Committee on Healthcare, the ASHRAE SSPC 170 Ventilation of Health Care Facilities, the ASHRAE SSPC 189.3 Design, Construction & Operation of Sustainable High Performance Health Care Facilities, and the NFPA AIC-AAA Committee for NFPA 90A, Standard for the Installation of Air-Conditioning and Ventilating Systems, and 90B, Standard for the Installation of Warm Air Heating and Air-Conditioning Systems
