The 4th Needs Assessment of the U.S. Fire Service
Hylton Haynes, NFPA
Christina Holcroft, NFPA

In Fall 2015, NFPA, in collaboration with other national stakeholders, conducted the 4th Needs Assessment of the U.S. Fire Service with the primary objective of identifying U.S. fire departments' needs, gaps and challenges. The insights collected inform the U.S. Congress and the U.S. Fire Administration where funding is needed and serves as a powerful tool for local fire departments when discussing their capabilities within their jurisdictions. The presenters will discuss the findings of this research effort, which captures new insights about the U.S. Fire Service personnel and their capabilities, community risk reduction, facilities, apparatus and equipment, communications equipment, new technologies and the ability to handle unusually challenging incidents.
