FEMA, NFPA, and USDA: Collaborating for Wildfire Safety

This session will provide information on the evidence-base for wildfire safety-specific guidance and highlight findings from the annual survey relative to households in areas that have experienced wildfires. The session will highlight specific programs to increase wildfire resilience, including youth preparedness, CERT and America's PrepareAthon!SM, a grassroots campaign for action. Attendees will learn about the collaboration between FEMA, NFPA and USDA and hear a summary of the process and campaign evaluation to date.

Ms. Snelling currently serves as Senior Policy Advisor to the Director in FEMA's Individual and Community Preparedness Division (ICPD). Since joining DHS in 2005, Ms. Snelling's work has included development of programs and partnerships for integrating government and nongovernmental resources for preparedness, development of strategic metrics for reporting progress on preparedness, and research, analysis and reporting on the status of individual and community preparedness. Ms. Snelling is currently managing a project to review the research base for protective actions for specific hazards, including wildfires. Ms. Snelling received her undergraduate and Master's degrees from Harvard University.
