NFPA 99, Health Care Facilities Code: Risk Assessment and the Health Care Governing Body |

To properly apply NFPA 99, Health Care Facilities Code, a facility must conduct a documented risk assessment; according to the Code, doing so is the responsibility of the "health care governing body." This session will review the application of risk in NFPA 99, clarify who holds the responsibility for conducting and accepting the risk assessments, identify scenarios where risk assessments can be applied, and review examples of risk assessments using available tools.

Jonathan Hart, NFPA Jon Hart is a Senior Fire Protection Engineer for NFPA. In this role, he serves as staff liaison to NFPA 99, Health Care Facilities Code, working with the 7 technical committees and the correlating committee responsible for the development of the document. He is the developer and instructor of the 2-day NFPA 99 Seminar and is the technical editor of the Health Care Facilities Code Handbook. He has a BS in Mechanical Engineering and an MS in Fire Protection Engineering, both from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Jon is a registered professional engineer in the discipline of fire protection.
Chad Beebe, ASHE Chad E. Beebe, AIA, SASHE, is a registered architect, a Certified Fire Protection Specialist, a Certified Healthcare Facility Manager, and a Certified Building Official. He is Deputy Executive Director for advocacy for the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) of the American Hospital Association. Chad serves on many national panels and committees that develop regulations for the design and construction of health care facilities. Chad is experienced as the AHJ for the Washington State Department of Health and managed its Construction Review Services program. He was honored by receiving ASHE's Regional Leader Award and became the first AHJ to receive a leadership award from the American Hospital Association.
David Dagenais, Wentworth-Douglas Hospital Dave Dagenais has been in healthcare for over 20 years and is currently the Director of Plant Operations and Security at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, NH. Dave has earned his FASHE designation with the American Society of Healthcare Engineers, and is a Certified Healthcare Facility Manger and a Certified Healthcare Safety Professional. He also served as a police officer for 11 years and is a member of the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety.
