Campaigning for Sprinkler Requirements -- Sharing Best Practices from Europe and North America

This presentation will share the lessons and successes of sprinkler implementation across Europe. The presenter will explain how sprinklers have been incorporated into Building Standards, Parliamentary Standards and Legislation, highlighting the successes and frustrations experienced while carrying out this campaign. In addition, he will illustrate the lessons that can be learned from the sprinkler campaigns in the USA and Canada together with examples of best practice in Europe.

Keith MacGillivray was a former Fire Chief in the UK and is now the Chief Executive of BAFSA, the trade association for sprinkler manufacturers, providers, and installers. He has previously spoken to the European, UK, and Scottish Parliament together at an NFPA conference following the tragic deaths of fourteen elderly people in a care home fire in Scotland. Keith is a passionate and dedicated campaigner for the installation of automatic fire sprinklers across a range of occupancies. He has served as Director of the Fire Service Section of NFPA for the last six years.
